The requirements for a successful heat storage favelity is depending on the geological conditions.
The critical point is hydrogeology: If the store storage is placed in an area with large amounts of water migrates through the heat store. Migrating water will transport the heat away from the store and hence the loss will make the store economically unprofitable.
Knowledge about the geology and hydrogeology is necessary to accomplish a successful project. It is recommendable to conduct a geological survey preliminary to the drilling.
Elements in preliminary geological survey:
• A perimeter of a suitable size and close to heat source and heat consumer / heat transportation system
• Depth to ground rock, directional drilling is more expensive in ground rock
• Identify if migrating ground water is presence
• The composition of the soil, for dimensioning purposes link to soil properties
